Last week, we lucked out and were able to get Mad Tea Party tickets for “Alice in Wonderland”. Can we ever see a Disney movie at a regular theatre? Of course not! Even though we purchased tea party tickets three weeks in advance, we were only able to get in on a Monday because weekends were already sold out. So I took that Monday off of work to go to the DMV in the morning and see “Alice” in the afternoon. The DMV didn’t work out though. Their computer systems went down, state-wide. So, I got to drive around with expired tags (temporary dealer tags, even worse) for a week and a half. Do you think they’re open on the weekends? Not in CA! Of course not! Stupid DMV. Anyway, back to Alice….
Hollywood was still dressed up for the Academy Awards. I guess they couldn’t take everything down in one night! It was pretty funny to see Oscars being driven away in trucks. You don’t see that every day! Lucky for us, one big huge one was still up when we arrived. Whoo hoo photo op!
Let me explain our attire… Janelle and I call this look “gothic glam”. I think we’re too girly to go totally gothic! This is the first time we’ve ever attempted to look even remotely gothic. It was extremely weird and uncomfortable, but totally fun! The thing that freaked us out the most was the black nailpolish!
The Mad Tea Party was held in the Disney Soda Fountain Studio Store which is connected to the El Capitan theatre. They roped off a section and set up a tea party. It was pretty small, so there weren’t a lot of people at each tea party. Nice and intimate! They had us draw pictures of pigs to hold up when we wanted seconds. We used a deck of cards to call our server over. Then we had a cupcake decorating contest! The tea food was not good. For the price we paid, that
was kind of disappointing. But the cupcakes were from Yummy Cupcakes and they were de-lish! For some reason, we got the most awkward, heavy tea pot too. We made quite a mess! They took our picture for a free souvenir photo and gave us Mad Tea Party coffee mugs to keep. Those made it all worth it. The party was pretty fun too. Jan-Michael got second place in the cupcake decorating contest. I think it’s funny that the three of us decorated our cupcakes based on the three main characters. With only two minutes to decorate, I think we did a pretty good job! (Mad Hatter: Jan-Michael, Alice: me, Hearts: Janelle). Funnily enough, there were no kids at our tea party!
After tea, we went in to the El Capitan theatre to see the movie. They did a great job of decorating it to match Alice’s theme. Before the movie, we managed to get free Alice popcorn buckets! Got to love El Capitan management. If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s fantastic! It was much better than I expected. I love that it’s more of a sequel than a re-make. After the movie, we
headed downstairs to view props and costumes from the movie. This is another reason why I love to see movies at the El Capitan… bonus!

Now who wants my bottle of black nail polish?!

No WAY! That looks SO fun! That theatre sounds amazing. I think your Alice cupcake looks pretty darn amazing Krysta. You can wield a frosting tube pretty well. I am impressed. I really want to see this movie. How kid friendly would you say it is? I have been hesitant to take Owen.
Wow, that's so cool! You guys get to do so many fun things! I think your goth outift was totally hot! :)
