Twilight Crazy! Port Angeles and Forks, WA

The idea to drive three hours to Forks, WA came from Janelle's boss. She jokingly said, "If you go to Forks and buy me something, I'll let you have the weekend off for Seattle." When we initially started planning the trip, Janelle had mentioned going to Forks. But, at the time, it seemed absurd to me. A month or so later though, I suddenly became a "closet Twilight fan". Not sure why it hit so late, but I suddenly wanted to watch the movie over and over and listen to the soundtracks. Maybe it was New Moon and creating my own team- Team Carlisle? SO when her boss said that, we thought... why not?! We're a little crazy as it is, so it would be expected. Besides, do you know anyone who has gone to Forks? It would be something different!

We somehow talked poor Becky in to going. We had to catch her up on the story line in the car! It's sort of funny because Becky is like Bella. She's from Arizona and moved to rainy Washington where she goes to school. She already has a fantastic boyfriend though, so she doesn't need to meet any vampires or werewolves =p

We woke up bright and early to a rainy morning. Enterprise picked us up and we rented a car. Not just any car... MY car! It was nice to feel comfortable driving in crazy weather. We found out the night before that we would have to take a ferry on the route to Port Angeles. I have NEVER driven a car on a ferry before. In fact, I've never even taken a ferry! So it was a nice addition to our road trip. When you drive your car on the ferry, you can either stay in your car, or go up to the viewing decks. On the way there, we went up to the viewing decks. On the way back, we stayed in the car (since it was dark anyway).

Also on the way to Port Angeles, we had to cross Hood Canal Bridge, which is the third longest floating bridge in the world. Do not tell a driver she is about to cross a floating bridge when she doesn't know what that means! Haha!

Believe it or not, but we eventually drove through snow. It was also snowing! Luckily, I'm an experienced snow driver! See what I mean, crazy weather!

Our first stop on the way to Forks was Port Angeles. We had to drive through it anyway, why not stop? There were 4 major Twilight sights to see. One of which was Bella Italia. We planned to eat there, but it was closed! They're only open for dinner =( So we ate at a small (and I mean SMALL) restaurant called Haven. It was yummy but we were missing that Italian food. It pretty much rained the whole time we were in Port Angeles, hence why our pictures are all with umbrellas. Port Angeles was definitely one of those really cute towns. Even without the Twilight hoop-la, I would go visit.

The drive from Port Angeles to Forks and back was along the peninsula. Beautiful drive!

Finally, Forks! Home of Edward, Bella and Jacob... and Carlisle =p Lucky for us, it stopped raining during our photo session. It was so windy and freezing though, this is how it went: Inside the car "Ready? One, two, three!", jump out of the car, run to destination, snap picture, run back to car. Sometimes, we even left the car running and once, we let Becky stay inside the car while she snapped the picture out the window! Forks website has Twilight destinations marked by hearts on a map of their town. These locations were super close together. At one point, the Twilight Tour Bus was following us. We couldn't help but laugh at the poor suckers who paid for the tour. Obviously, we were doing the same thing FOR FREE.

Forks is a small town. I mean SMALL town. Not a cute small town, just a very small there's-nothing-to-do-here town. Seriously, Twilight is all they have going for them. In fact, every restaurant has something named after Twilight and every store sold Twilight gear. It must be bringing in tons of money. Hello, they charged $20 for t-shirts! It just didn't seem right to be in such a small town paying big city prices. Oh well, we had fun and they let you take pictures- even in the cool Dazzled By Twilight shop.

And now, the moment you've been waiting for.... Pictures!!

I think every small town should have someone write a story about it. Good for business.
