Free Shows! Get Your Free Shows!

California is definitely the land of opportunity… for free shows, that is! This past month, Janelle and I have been fortunate enough to go to, not one, but two free shows! Thanks to Janelle’s wonderful friend, Benny, we have attended both a Cirque Du Soleil show and a dance performance! Benny and Janelle worked in Fantasmic together, once upon a time.

The Cirque Du Soleil show, Kooza, just traveled in to Irvine. She was invited and in turn invited me. We were there opening night, which was also media night, so there was lots of free stuff! They took our pictures, gave us popcorn, sodas, champagne, and cupcakes! Whoo hoo! Oh to be VIP…. Janelle and I had never seen a Cirque show, so we weren’t sure what to expect. For some reason, we got it in our head that it was going to be some weird modern dance thing. So, we were quite surprised that was really just a circus! A very good circus, that is. I’m pretty sure we were holding our breath the whole show. If you have not seen a Cirque show, go now! It is incredible!!!! We loved the story, music, and of course the performance. I just can’t believe people can do that stuff!! Amazing!

A week or two later, Benny invited us to the opening night of Riverdance at the Pantages. Have you ever been to an opening night at a musical theater? I’m sure it would be different for something like “Rent” or “Wicked”, but they have a red carpet… and, well… you don’t recognize anyone!! Haha! I felt like I should be taking pictures along with the paparazzi, but since I didn’t recognize anyone, I didn’t. No free stuff this time, just amazing seats! Again, having never seen a Riverdance show, I thought it would be all dancing. But it was quite nice. They had just musical numbers as well as dancing. Beautiful singers, fantastic musicians, and amazing dancers. I probably would not have paid to see it- I’m more of a ballet girl, but it was a great performance.

Finally, here’s a picture of my two favorite CA guys, my husband and Nathan. We’ve spent lots of time with our wonderful “Disney” friend. It’s nice to be back =) This is a picture from the first time we saw Nathan’s new place. Jan-Michael wanted to take his Rocketeer helmet home!
